Advisor
Tom has
been an advisor to Strategic Rail Finance since March of 2000, one
year after he founded Rail Cents Enterprises. Tom worked for
Conrail from 1984 to 1999, following seven years with CSX and
predecessors.
As Director of Flexi-Flo from 1990 to 1999, he presided over
Conrail's network of in-house transloading terminals, where tonnage,
revenue, and contribution to overhead all doubled during his
tenure. Before Flexi-Flo, Tom won "Modern Railroads" magazine's
Golden Freight Car Achievement Award for creating new private
transloading terminals. Previous railroad responsibilities included
managing train operations, selling carload and intermodal space,
negotiating automotive and intermodal rates, and developing
strategic plans.
Tom holds a B.A. in economics from Yale, where he specialized in
railroad costing and organization. He also holds an M.B.A. in
operations research and finance from Northwestern, where he
specialized in systems engineering and railroad capitalization.
Between degrees he served in the U.S. Army, finishing up as a
Captain in charge of the flight line of an assault helicopter
company. He holds two patents and lives in suburban Philadelphia
with his wife and two sons.
